2026 SPA Summer Field Trip
Exploring Revolutionary War Archaeology
July 16–19, 2026
Overview
In 2026, as the United States marks 250 years since the American Revolution, the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology will host its annual Summer Field Trip in the Philadelphia region, focusing on the archaeology of the Revolutionary War.
This multi-day trip will explore significant archaeological sites, landscapes, and institutions connected to the Revolutionary period, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with material evidence of this transformative moment in American history.
Details are still being finalized and will be shared through the SPA website, newsletter, Annual Meeting, and local SPA chapters as they become available.
What to Expect
Participants can expect a combination of guided site visits, expert interpretation, and group travel designed to make the experience both educational and accessible.
Planned elements include:
A bus-based field trip with group transportation
Visits to major Revolutionary War–era archaeological and historic sites
Talks and interpretation by archaeologists, historians, and site professionals
Group meals and opportunities for discussion and networking
The SPA field trip fee (to be announced) will cover:
Bus transportation
Scheduled lunches
One group dinner
Site entrance fees, tours, and speaker honoraria
Participants will book and pay for their hotel accommodations separately at a designated field trip hotel.
